What are Sound Baths & How they Promote Mental Peace

Listen to “What are Sound Baths & How they Promote Mental Peace”.

A Sound Bath is a deeply-immersive, full-body listening experience that intentionally uses sound to invite gentle yet powerful therapeutic and restorative processes to nurture the mind and body.

Though many people have only recently heard of sound baths, the use of music for healing is nothing new. From Tibetan singing bowls to Aboriginal didgeridoos, music has been used for its therapeutic effects for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks used sound vibration to aid in digestion, treat mental disturbance, and induce sleep.

Healing: The Rhythm of the Earth

Sometimes in life, we feel anxiety. We feel stressed. We find ourselves holding on to negative energy or feel heaviness in our heart and soul. Sound baths will give you the opportunity to let go of all of that and just return to a state of calm and well-being.

Sound healing is believed to help in the treatment of stress, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, sleep problems, and chronic pain. According to sound healing practitioners, through vibration, the cells in the body are being harmonized by sound, thus promoting healing. Sound baths use repetitive notes at different frequencies to help bring your focus away from your thoughts.

Different types of sound healing include music and sound therapy, binaural beats, mantra and chanting, tuning forks, and sound baths with singing bowls or gongs.

When you sink into a Sound Bath and guide your awareness to your listening, you allow your brain waves to slow, shifting from a more active state to a more relaxed state, or even a dreamlike state. The sounds introduced during a Sound Bath are an invitation into a deeper state of consciousness, an opportunity to unplug from external stimuli and to gain perspective on what’s going on within you. The goal of the experience is to invite deep rest and relaxation, and explore self-inquiry and self-discovery.

What is Sound Healing?

Your brain will naturally begin to synchronize with the rhythm of music, so as facilitators  play slower, calming rhythms, you  can ease your mind into slower brain wave states.

Carving out even just 10-15 minutes for a sound bath can be just what you need to relax and restore when you don’t have a lot of time in your schedule. If you find it difficult to  find time for a sound healing session you can alternatively  try DeepH App Meditations. The app has a specially designed section to help you access meditative states through the transformative and healing power of sound.
