How to Protect Yourself From Negative Energy

Have you ever been around someone, or in an environment where you felt completely drained afterwards? Do you ever leave the meetings or conversations that are emotionally charged feeling anxious, but don’t know why?

Negative energy usually comes in the form of people more than things. For some, the office holds lots of negative energy, for others, it could be family members. For some, it may even be bottled up inside of themselves. If the latter happens to be you, you need to find ways to release that toxic negative energy. Otherwise, it will slowly eat away at you and it will steal all of your happiness and joy before you get a chance to enjoy any of it.

Negative energy is harmful in multiple ways, but it can be stopped. Here are 5 simple tricks to use to protect yourself from negative energy which will be beneficial for your energetic, emotional and physical health.

 

  1. Know that it is not your fault

If a negative person is making you feel discouraged or not worthy, know it’s no fault of your own. Usually, when someone attacks our dreams, desires, goals or ambitions, it’s a sign that they’re not where they want to be in their own lives. Instead of allowing them to transfer their negativity onto you, try talking to them about why you want to pursue what you’re doing and even encourage them to do the same.

 

 

  1. Remove yourself

Simply say “I’m sorry you feel this way.” If possible, either walk away or leave the room. You don’t have to absorb their anger. Dismiss it and let it go. Usually, the argument will dissipate naturally.

 

  1. Set healthy limits and boundaries

Control how much time you spend listening to stressful people, and learn to say “no.” Set clear limits and boundaries with people, politely cutting them off if they get critical or mean. Remember, “no” is a complete sentence.

 

  1. Learn how to simply observe your thoughts and emotions without letting them affect your energy

This might be hard to do if you are not meditating or doing any breathing exercises. In this case, you might lose your cool and strength more quickly sometimes. Think of the analogy of vampires and remind yourself that the person who is draining your energy or reflecting bad energies is the weak one. These people can not survive if they can’t suck up others’ energies. But you can keep your frequency high and keep their power away from you by rising above them.

 

  1. Hang out with happy people.

The more time we spend with happy, upbeat, optimistic people, the less time we will have to spend with negative ones. They will eventually get the hint and either change their attitude or leave you alone.
