How to Build Your Own Path to Happiness Through Spiritual Growth

Listen to “How to Build Your Own Path to Happiness Through Spiritual Growth”.

“Ironically enough, when you make peace with the fact that the purpose of life is not happiness, but rather experience and growth, happiness comes as a natural byproduct. When you are not seeking it as the objective, it will find its way to you.” -Anon

Spiritual growth is an inner process of removing obsolete ideas and habits, wrong concepts, and erroneous beliefs and ideas about life. It is a process of widening the horizons of your consciousness and attempting to understand inner truths. In this process, you reduce negative and limiting habits, thoughts and beliefs, and let your inner-self manifest.

Spiritual growth starts when you choose to be more mindful and present. It then evolves into gratitude, appreciation, and happiness. Happiness stems from the journey, not the expectation of reaching the destination.

Your personal growth contains the seeds of happiness. Spiritual growth is about taking the time to connect with our true nature through:

  • Meditation
  • Awareness of our thoughts and feelings
  • Bringing peace into our minds and lives
  • Maintaining healthy relationships with ourselves, others and the world.

When we treat people better, we become better and we become more conscious of our environment too.

Make a choice today to work towards wholeness, hope, inner-strength, meaning, peace, health, love and connection. As you change and grow, your life will also change and flourish.

Inner work is not a linear process. Here are 4 tips on how to commit to actions that can help you grow spiritually and strive towards your potential.

1. Work towards having peace of mind

Spending even just a few minutes a day meditating can improve your life. Meditation can grant you a sense of calm, inner peace, and balance that can benefit your emotional and spiritual wellbeing and your overall health.

Inner-peace is the result of retraining your mind to process life as it is, rather than as you think it should be.

2. Take care of your physical health

No one would question that, as individuals, we are responsible for our health. After all, we are the only ones who can change our behaviour and habits. If you focus on keeping your body healthy, your mind will reap the rewards.

Making the conscious decision to remove processed food from your diet and basing your meals on natural foods will allow you to lead a healthier and happier lifestyle. Try to incorporate stress-reducing practices into your weekly routine. You can try deep breathing, meditation, yoga or any other exercises which you find relaxing.

3. Have compassion for yourself and others

Compassion for others is most effective when paired with self-care and self-compassion. We need to know how to look after ourselves before we can care for others.

We must be kind and patient with ourselves when we reach obstacles and know when we need a break, otherwise, we’ll burn ourselves out. The better you take care of yourself, the better you can take care of others.

Do no harm. Neither to yourself nor other people or nature. Try to always live consciously and with an open heart.

No Harm to Yourself, No Harm to the Planet

4. Connection to nature

Planet earth is one giant ecosystem that connects everything and everyone. Our breath and heartbeat are constant reminders of life’s pulsing rhythm that moves around and within us.

The more you live in alignment with nature and its biological rhythms, the smoother your life will flow. We know that, deep down, human beings have a strong connection to nature, and we know that reinforcing that link has a strong positive impact on our well-being.

Comparing ourselves to others on the playground of spiritual growth is pointless and will hamper any efforts we make. Fulfilment comes from witnessing our individual personal growth.

You are the only one building your road. It is just your life and your unique experience.
