Listen to “The Secret to Staying Consistent with Workouts”.
Consistency is the key to training and it’s important to maintain regardless of the distractions that come your way. It’s often tempting to procrastinate. After all, it’s much easier to stay at home and say you’ll go tomorrow.
The trouble is, tomorrow never comes!
If you want to achieve long-term goals, you need to be consistent. And remember, the rewards will far outweigh any short-lived gratification.
Why do people fail to be consistent in their training?
There are many reasons why people lose their rhythm and fail to be consistent in their training. A few of the most common are
- Setting unrealistic goals
- Engaging in exercises they don’t enjoy
- Comparing themselves to others
- Making excuses
However, there is one reason that that trumps them all: they don’t really want it.
If you want to lose weight and get fit you have to really want a new body. You have to love the idea of a ‘new you’ who is strong, fit and healthy. Only once you know it’s what you truly want will you have the determination to do it.
If you are determined to achieve a goal, then here are some tips to make it a reality:
Define your Goal
It’s important that you know exactly what you want. Only then can you work out how to get it. Ask yourself, what do you want and when do you want it?
If you know your goal, you’ll be able to measure your progress and work towards achieving it.
Once you’ve defined your goal, write it down and put it somewhere where you will see it daily, even hourly. Your goal must always be on your mind.
Once you know your goal, you can create an action plan. Start by dividing each action into bite-size daily steps you can take to meet your goal. Think of it as smashing your Milestone Goal with a sledgehammer in order to reduce it to small pebbles you collect every day. Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor is your goal; daily progress is the secret of success.
Do it daily
Feeling like you’re making progress is critical to keeping you motivated as you pursue your goal. Get in the habit of asking yourself every morning, “What action can I take toward my goal today?”
No two days will be the same, but you should be working toward your goal every day. Remember, no matter how small your progress, it’s still progress.
To ensure you’re learning what works and what doesn’t, review your progress daily. Understand the actions that are helping you make the progress you seek. Daily action is the key to success.
Whatever your goal is, whether it’s to lose weight, get fit, run a marathon, meditate daily, reduce smoking or quit completely, you need to track every step you make towards your goal.
We created the DeepH app to help our users keep track of their daily activity. With or without a fitness tracker, you can add daily workouts and their intensity and duration, meditation minutes, or cigarettes smoked.
You can’t accomplish your goal in a day. The only way to succeed is to focus on the task at hand, step-by-step, breath-by-breath.
If you can’t complete a small portion of your goal in a day then you’ve made the goal too big. Take it one day at a time — that’s the key to accomplishing your goal.
